Is This Safe Space to Call Out Fake Bisexuals?
Some people are bisexual, some people are just upper class white women who really want to be oppressed
Everyone knows a bisexual. And everyone knows a bisexual woman who has never done anything with a woman and never will. So why are we letting that person get away with stolen valor?
I’m not talking about a bisexual who hasn’t “gotten around to it” yet, and/or or is currently in a committed heterosexual relationship. I mean a very specific type of “bisexual”. We all know one. A white woman, upper middle class background, probably colors her hair vibrant colors. When she identifies herself as a bisexual, you can feel her waiting for something from you. You’re not sure what. She’s never dated a woman and never will. Maybe a kiss if she’s at the bar and drunk but that’s it.
“Yeah, I know the type.”
I thought you would.
Can we police the bisexual identity of these people? They are not fkn bisexual. I think they just want to feel apart of a marginalized community and being bisexual is the one that allows them access with no barrier of entry. They can still fully engage in their heterosexual lifestyle choices and reap all the benefits while also afforded the luxury of not having to deal with queer issues. They’re essentially cherry picking how marginalized they want to be and they do it just to feel something.
And they get so sensitive about being denied their “right” to claim bisexuality too. I saw a TikTok once about basically what I’m describing, fake bisexuals, and the comments were full of angry white women in heterosexual relationships. Meanwhile, legitimate bisexuals, of all kinds of dating histories, were in the comments relating to the video.
So I’m clearly not the first person to think this and there is obviously a growing consensus in the bisexual community.
Unfortunately, this is something that is hard to police because not everyone has a discerning eye and will correctly identify who’s a fake - we don’t want to burden actual bisexuals with annoying comments that seek to delegitimize their identity. But maybe we up the think pieces on Substack and TikTok so these people will hopefully go “oh shit is this me?” and then stop.
